Happy New Year 2016!
Happy New Year, friends!
With a new year comes renewed spirit and energy to start fresh and improve ourselves. Last year I wrote about New Year Revolutions instead of Resolutions, and this year's topic is similar.
I read something last week that really resonated with me. I can't remember where I read it, so I can't give proper credit, but it was along the lines of "I don't want to see a 'New Year, New You', but rather an Improved You."
Basically, don't reinvent yourself. Don't utterly change who you are. DEVELOP who you are. IMPROVE a weakness. PURSUE an interest or passion. You are an amazing person with unique talents and experiences. No two people are the same and we are fortunate enough to live in a time when anything and everything is possible.
Life is such a wonderful journey, not a destination. We don't have to go everywhere, accomplish everything, or know all there is to know RIGHT NOW. There are so many things to learn and know it is impossible to do it ALL, but when we make managable goals, we can accomplish great things.
As a stay-at-home-mom, I have often felt lost in myself. Did I really do all I could to become who I am just to sit at home? Just so I can be Head Housekeeper, cleaning toilets and doing dishes the rest of my life? Honestly, I LOVE the time I have with my boys, and I am so very grateful that my husband has such a wonderful job that I CAN stay home with them. I found, though, that I was losing myself by not continuing to develp who I am as a person. Thus, this website. A place for me to share my thoughts, highlight people I admire, and share my developing talents with others. Even if I were the only one reading this or "following", I am happier because I am improving myself. I'm not doing it for anyone else but me, and I have not been happier in years!
I am by no means perfect, so I am taking full advantage of the new year to make goals to improve. A few days ago, on Instagram, I posted a pic about SMART goals. A meme stating that SMART Goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. Set a few (and by few I mean 1-3) attainable goals for yourself this year. They don't have to be big like "I'm going to run 3 miles every day and lose 75lbs" to be great goals. DO NOT SET YOURSELF UP FOR FAILURE!!! As you will see below, I have set very simple, specific goals. Feel free to comment with your 2016 goals!
1. CALL (not text or FB) at least 1 friend a week.
2. Take 1 Photo a day (even if it's junk!)
3. Write monthly in my boys' journals (it's been hit and miss...mainly miss...)
There it is. Plain and simple. Easy to accomplish. Now it's your turn. Ready? Set. GO!
